Monetisation and Self-Serve Advertising

We research, design and build solutions that explore the future of advertising monetisation.

From AI-powered self-serve advertising platforms to agentic systems that can help media owners connect demand with the right audiences and inventory.

Building the next generation of advertising monetisation

Publishers, media companies, retailers and other businesses with valuable audiences and advertising inventory have more opportunities than ever to build direct relationships with advertisers.

But monetising that inventory can still depend on manual sales processes, fragmented technology and platforms that make it difficult for smaller advertisers to buy directly.

Agentic AI and automation are helping change this.

What is monetisation and self-serve advertising?

Monetisation is the process of generating revenue from advertising assets such as digital inventory, audiences and first-party data.

Self-serve advertising is one approach to monetisation that allows advertisers to plan, create, buy and manage campaigns directly through a platform, with less involvement from the media owner’s sales and operations teams.

Monetisation and self-serve advertising are becoming more accessible

Selling advertising directly has traditionally required significant involvement from sales, planning, operations and campaign-management teams.

Programmatic advertising and self-serve technology have already started to change this by allowing advertisers to access inventory directly, while advances in AI and automation are creating opportunities to simplify the process even further.

Making direct advertising easier to buy

Self-serve platforms can give advertisers direct access to inventory, audiences, formats and campaign tools without requiring every opportunity to move through a traditional sales process.

Conversational campaign creation

Generative AI can simplify the advertiser experience. Instead of navigating complex campaign forms and AdTech terminology, advertisers could describe their objectives, audiences, budgets and creative requirements conversationally.

Smarter packaging of audiences and inventory

AI and connected data can help media owners determine how audiences, inventory and advertising products should be packaged and presented. Rather than requiring advertisers to understand the underlying complexity, platforms can recommend opportunities based on campaign objectives and available supply.

Automating campaign operations

Workflows such as campaign setup, creative validation, inventory checks, approvals, reporting and optimisation can increasingly be automated, reducing the operational overhead associated with serving a larger number of direct advertisers.

Connecting monetisation with first-party data

Publishers, retailers and other media owners can use their first-party data to create differentiated advertising propositions. Connecting this data with self-serve technology can allow advertisers to discover and activate relevant audience segments without exposing the underlying customer data.

arrow_circle_right OUR APPROACH

How we approach designing and building monetisation and self-serve advertising solutions

01. Research

We research and explore the problem, use cases, opportunities, and technical challenges to define what a potential solution could look like and how it could fit into the wider AdTech ecosystem.

02. High-fidelity prototype

We turn the concept into a realistic user experience by creating a high-fidelity prototype.

The goal of the prototype is to illustrate workflows, interfaces, and functionality and showcase the monetisation or self-serve advertising platform’s vision to stakeholders and prepare for development.

03. Proof of concept (PoC)

We build and test the parts of the solution that carry the greatest technical uncertainty, such as:

  • Conversational campaign creation
  • Audience and inventory matching
  • AI recommendations
  • Platform integrations
  • Agentic selling workflows

04. Minimum viable product (MVP)

We develop a working MVP of the media-planning tool for testing with initial users.

Sometimes the MVP stage will be an evolution of the previous stages, other times it’ll be the starting point.

05. Maintain and scale

Once the MVP has been released, we then maintain the software and evolve the architecture to support an increase in users and new features.
